Resolution Favoring Partisan Elections

Approved unanimously at the May 20, 2013 County Committee meeting.

WHEREAS, the members of the Barrow County Republican Party believe that voters are better prepared to exercise their civic duty when they have as much information about candidates as possible; and

WHEREAS, Political Party affiliation is a key indicator about the political philosophy of the candidates and elected officials running for and currently holding important positions of power and influence in our county; and

WHEREAS, as a Political Party, Barrow County Republicans should continue to build on previous gains and promote conservative Republican principles in all current elected partisan offices which impact our society and county;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the County Committee of the Barrow County Republican Party calls on our State Representatives and State Senator, to oppose any legislative proposals to establish non-partisan elections for Sheriff, Tax Commissioner, Coroner, Clerk of Superior Court, Chief Magistrate, and Probate Judge in Barrow County;

FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, the County Committee of the Barrow County Republican Party calls on our State Representatives and State Senator to oppose any legislative proposals to establish non-partisan elections for all elective positions on the Barrow County Board of Education and the Barrow County Commission.

Resolution in Support of Marriage

Approved unanimously at the May 20, 2013 County Committee meeting.

WHEREAS, for centuries marriage has been defined and legally designated in Western civilation as the union of one man and one woman; and

WHEREAS, a marital union of one man and one woman is the best environment to raise and nurture any children produced by such a union; and

WHEREAS, a marital union of one man and one woman is the best environment to raise and nurture any children adopted by such a union; and

WHEREAS, there are attempts to expand the legal designation of "marriage" to include unions between homosexuals; and

WHEREAS, the reasoning behind calling unions between homosexuals as "marriage" also supports the same for unions involving more than two marital partners;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the County Committee of the Barrow County Republican Party calls on our State Representatives, State Senator, and other State officials to support the current legal distinctions for marriage as a union between one man and one woman, exclusively, in Georgia; and

FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, that our State Representatives, State Senator, and other State officials oppose any legislative proposals to change these legal distinctions to redefine marriage.
